Tunkul Político: “Political environment in full swing”

Hello, dear readers! Here we go, going through the last week of the second month of the year with the usual temperature changes in the so-called crazy February. The Tunkules Amigos send their rhythmic messages in the usual way, so without further ado, let's get to it!
The National Tunkul communicated with sadness and confusion, because the series of events that are happening every day are generating a tremendous mess. Between the Trumpian threats that suddenly turn into praise, the violent acts that do not stop, the internal struggles of the tribes of the party in power, the antics of those who proclaim themselves as the opposition, the alleged fraud schemes, the grasshoppers and other nonsense, the political environment is in full swing.
He tells us that one issue that has not been discussed much in public is the announcement by the President with an A that she will present an initiative to end the reelection of legislators and mayors, as well as the prohibition of the spouses of those who are finishing a term of office from running for any elected office. The reaction of the leaders, owners or decision-makers of all the parties in this regard will be interesting. Masinó?

In the solar x'tokoy, an issue that caught the attention in some social circles was the statement by the Italian company that operates shipyards for large vessels, which said flatly that it is not willing to invest a single peso or dollar to build one in the port of Progreso de Castro, which is the official name of this coastal municipality of Yucatan.
The back-and-forth started immediately: that this was known since ChiquiGóber was in office; that no, the withdrawal is new; that the trip of the Yucatecan delegation to Italy was to try to convince them; that it is already final, that it will not happen, and a stream of comments, especially on digital networks.
The Business Tunkul sent us a very technical and convoluted message, telling us that we must listen and read carefully; that no one has said that the shipyard will not be built, but only that the Italian company is not going to put up money for it, so it could even be thought that the possibility of having others build it and the Italians come to operate it is being explored. Of course, that would depend on the results of the relevant financial runs and the profits they represent. The truth is, we did not understand anything, but as it arrived we transcribed it. Did you?
Continuing with the events in the municipality of Progreso, the Tunkul Porteño reports that complaints continue regarding the construction of the second floor, bridge, elevated viaduct, or whatever you want to call it, for the transit of cargo vehicles entering and leaving the fiscal dock. First there were the protests of those who live on the street on which this monstrosity was built due to the damage caused to their homes and their urban environment, complaints that, as is sadly customary, were not fully addressed.
Now the complaints are from businessmen, both transporters and importers and exporters, because it turns out that the company that was granted the management of that road for several decades, intends to charge each truck one dollar for each ton that it transports, including the weight of the vehicle, an announcement that, they say, has already been notified to future users and will come into effect when that toll road begins to operate. Is all this greed, corruption and impunity true? For their sake!
That Tunkul ends his message by pointing out that while the works and resources are designed, built and financed for so-called international jetties, chocolate piers, museums, second floors as toll roads, expansion of the remote terminal and supposed shipyards, no one, no level of government, nor business sector, promotes, manages or provides resources to achieve the proper functioning of the municipality's Drinking Water System, which is absolutely deteriorated.
That the people of Progreso are left without water for most hours during the day, that they lack that vital liquid, as the prestigious Yucatecan actor Arturo de Córdova said, that “is not of the slightest importance.” Please do me a favor!
Continuing along the coast, the Municipal Tunkul tells us that where a big fuss has already been made is in the municipality of Telchac Puerto, because the property tax charges have skyrocketed, apparently because in the local Income Law, the increase is almost 500%! But in addition, the charges for commercial licenses or for the payment of premises in the market, were also increased by the city council a lot. Does it seem that because the mayor resigned from the party that nominated him and wants to join the party in power in the state, he thinks he is Juan Camaney? You see things, Mio Cid! And since the messages were very whiny, we'll stop here. Apparently, the carnival is not just a week-long festivity, but the costumes and masks seem to be permanent, at least in the political sphere. Don't be fooled by any tricks, get the best information you can, get out your raincoat in case it rains, and please don't forget that we'll see you next time! Mérida, Yucatán, February 25, 2025.
